The Jewel in the Crown…..

So last week three of my besties and I all managed to secure the same few days off work.. Obviously this spelled out GIRLY TRIP in our minds!! With the short notice and very little research done, which I might add is totally not me, the destination we decided on was Northern Ireland, by means of a road trip from Wexford. If you are planning on visiting from other counties or countries I will list below some links that may be of use to you.

GIANT’S CAUSEWAY

 

With the car packed up, and our bellies full we set of for our destination, first stop Giant’s Causeway , Antrim roughly a 4,5 hour trip.

The scenery along our route to the causeway was truly amazing. The Giants Causeway is often referred to as the Jewel in the Crown of the coast of Antrim and it’s safe to say after seeing it we agree. When you have parked up you can make your way to the visitor centre to purchase ticket and use other facilities at the Causeway Centre such as  Tourist Information offices, Bureau De Change  an Interpretive Audio-Visual Presentation , a Souvenir Shop, toilets etc.

We entered out on to the walk from the centre, however we were told afterwords that you can walk out to it  free of charge ,had we not have entered through the visitor centre. However, the entry was only nine pounds so it wasn’t exactly breaking the bank!

Apparently millions of years ago Antrim was subject to volcanic activity. The short of it is that the lava which was rapidly cooling, contracted and variations in the cooling rate resulted in the world famous colum like rocks we see before us. However I am more of a believer in myths and legends and I believe it may have come about due to the story of Finn McCool fighting against the Scottish giant Benandonner!!!!

There is just something about the view I don’t think you would ever get fed up looking at it. We could have spent a lot longer there admiring the views, rocks, breathing in the fresh air and taking selfies on the cliff edge but our busy schedule did not allow it as we wanted to make another stop or two before reaching Cushendall, where we were booked in to spend our first night in glamping pods.
