Facebook kindly reminded me earlier today ,that it was this day two years ago that my mother and I had visited the Coronation Street studio tour. So I taught I would share our experience that we had , having booked through Celtic Horizons Tour. Sadly my mother passed away unexpectedly not long after this tour, so it makes the memories even fonder for me.
Having been huge fans of Corrie for years you can imagine the excitement when we came across an advertisement for the tour which included the studio tour for Coronation Street and location tour of Emmerdale as well as Cheshire Oaks Shopping outlet.Needless to say it was booked with speed and we patiently awaited the date.
We were collected in Wexford by coach and transferred to Dublin where we sailed with Irish Ferries. It was well organised and you didn’t have to worry about anything from the moment you were collected, and our bus driver was lovely and helpful and kept us entertained.
While we arrived on the other side we had a short drive to Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlets where we were given a few hours to do a bit of retail therapy and given a departure time and place.
At Cheshire Oaks, you will find up to 50% off top designer labels. The retail outlet has 120 shops, many of which sell designer label clothing. Cheshire Oaks also has ten great places to eat; two McDonalds, Garfunkels, La Brioche Doree, FT5K, Villa Pizza, Singapore Sam, Spud U Like, Madisons and BBs.
A short drive from here we reached our hotel, formerly known as bewleys but now under Clayton Hotel. This hotel was perfect ,clean and spacious rooms and I would highly recommend a stay here if you are visiting Manchester or surrounding areas. Our driver checked the whole coach load of guests in which was great and saved us any hassle. We had free time to do as we pleased and my mother and I decided to hop on a train into Manchester City and have a browse around.
The following morning we had an early start to fit in the Corrie Studio tour and Emmerdale location tour. It was absolutely amazing from the minute we arrived at the studio. Our guide was so well-informed and took us in groups around the large studio and set. It so unreal when you are standing looking at Gail Platt’s sitting room, Carla Connors apartment, Underworld and so on. They are so much smaller than they appear on tv. After the actual studio tour there is a museum part where you can see lots of articles such as Deirdre Barlow’s glasses, Hayley Croppers Coffin and much more before going out onto the cobbles. Here you can see Roys Rolls, Websters Garage, Victoria Court apartments, Audrey’s hair salon , Kabin and most importantly the famous Rovers Return. There is a photo opportunity in the studio to be snapped pulling a pint in one of the most iconic public houses on our screens. This prized procession now takes pride of place on my mantlepiece.
Departing the studios to our next destination, the Emmerdale Location tour. Now while I am a lover of Emmerdale this part of tour was not as brilliant as the Coronation Street part. That is not to say it was not good just it was kind of looking out the bus window and being told that field was one time used on Emmerdale, or that laneway leads to a farm that is used on the soap, it didn’t really mean a whole lot it just looked like where I live. When we got to the village that holds the Woolpack pub, apart from pub front the rest of the village doesn’t really look like Emmerdale. At the time there was no studio tour available for Emmerdale but it has since then become a tour in itself. I Hope to do this part in the future, if and when I do I will keep yee posted…..
Sadly since we done the tour, the Coronation Street studio doors have been closed to the public. However after speaking to Celtic Horizon Tours they now offer another tour where you get to have dinner with four of the Coronation Street current stars Details here
They also offer other packages such as Emmerdale Tour and various sports breaks..
All in all I would definitely recommend Celtic Horizon tours and look forward to dealing with them again in the future, they certainly made our trip a treasured and memorable one that I will never forget.
