Whilst being a huge fan of the old-fashioned pen and paper and making lists about lists about lists, modern technology also can be of huge help to us when organising trips and the being on the actual holiday. We are all so consumed by our smartphones these days, with higher percentages of people chosing the technology over carrying travel guides, brochures, maps, paper, books etc. So with that in mind I thought I would share some of my favourite free apps that you can download to your smartphone. ( Dependent on phone type)
Skyscanner is a great app that enables us to find comparisons for flights, hotels and car hire. The service is free to users and directs you to the airline, hotel, car hire provider or travel agency to complete the booking process. The site is multilingual, offering flight searches in over 30 languages.
Skyscanner does not sell flights directly; instead, the site can be used to find the cheapest deal for a desired route after which users are automatically transferred to the airline or travel supplier’s website to make their booking directly.
Aswell as all this Skyscanner also shares travel tips and advice regularly.
This app can make shopping in foreign cities a lot easier. This app works offline and is free, making it an absolute necessity for international travellers.
This app can be used to search and book more than 33,000 properties in over 170 countries from anywhere.
For us the consumer Uber is a convenient, inexpensive and safe taxi service. You can hire a private driver to pick you up and take you to your destination with the tap of a button on your phone – and they’ll be there in minutes. Not only is it an on-demand car service, but you can see exactly where the driver is when they’re coming to pick you up. You will need to download app on phone and then register details and set up account.
Viber is a mobile application that allows you to make phone calls and send text messages to all other Viber users for free! Viber is available over WiFi or 3G. Once you and your friends install Viber, you can use it to talk and message as much as you want. This saves on expensive unwelcome phone bills after a holiday abroad.
This app is a free multilingual service provided by Google. It translates text, speech, images, sites, or real-time video from one language into another. As of September 2016 it was supporting 103 languages , and serving over 200 million people daily. Now like everything it obviously has some limitations and some businesses may be wary of its ability, but in general I think its pretty good and could definitely do the basics if in a country where you may struggle with the language..Check it out…
These are just a few of the apps that I think are ideal and helpful, from the stage of researching and booking the trip, to getting around on holiday while being able to keep in touch with loved ones. There are constantly new apps being launched ,not all are to everyone’s taste, best option is install the app and check it out. If you are not going use it its best delete it as all these things take space on our phones and we all know how precious that space is…..
